FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

This page is intended to help answer some of the most Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's). Please see our website for more detailed information, directions, contact information, fees and much, much more.

Adoptions:

  • We host adoption events on selected Saturdays at PetsMart in Geneva
  • We rarely place out of state - we like to be within 'help range' of our adoptees and their families. Occasionally on special needs or harder to place pets, we will consider out of area adoptions. But we require the adopters to complete the adoption process and paperwork in person....so if you are willing, drop us a line!
  • We do not ship animals.
  • We cannot hold animals for potential adopters.
  • Animals should not be given as gifts.
  • All members of the adoptive family household must be present for the adoption whenever possible. We welcome you to bring along your children and family dog(s) to meet the pet prior to adoption. We understand the family cat(s) may not appreciate the trip!
  • This website is maintained by volunteers, but we do our best to keep it up to date.
  • All pets posted are available unless marked otherwise ("adopted" or "adoption pending"). We are always getting new animals in and others are finding wonderful homes.
  • All of our animals have been temperment tested, are sociable, loving, friendly and adoptable. We welcome you to come meet us and our pets.
  • We try to keep our pet's biographies updated with current information; however, the best way to find out more information about an animal is to contact the person listed for that particular pet.
  • Our animals come to our group as strays or owner surrenders from local area facilities which have limited time and space. We rarely take from the public.
  • Home visits, in some cases are required at $10 per visit to help with gas and other expenses.

Dogs:

  • If we know that a dog would do best in a home without children or with children over a certain age, we post this information in their biography. This can be for various reasons.
    • Dogs that are evaluated to have a shy or timid personality, generally do best in homes with older children.
    • Dogs that are very large and high energy may also do best in homes with older children as they can topple the small ones!
    • Some dogs are just happiest around adults being spoiled rotten!
  • We require you to bring along your children to meet the new dog prior to adoption. We would like every adoption to be a good match.
  • If we know that a dog would do best in a home without dogs or cats, we post this information in their biography.
    • We encourage you to bring along your family dog to meet with us and our dogs. Introductions at PetsMart can be kind of stressful and some dogs are very distracted. We may choose to do introductions at your home or one of ours when a more neutral situation will help.
    • Most of us have foster cats and can also assess our dogs behavior around cats.

Cats:

  • If we know that a cat would do best in a home without dogs, cats or children, we post this information in their biography. We encourage all family members to meet the cat prior to adoption...so that cat can choose you!
  • Our cats are all so wonderfully loving, friendly and gorgeous! Most are raised with other cats, dogs and lots of attention.

Donations and Adoption Fees:

  • Your donation is 100% tax deductible (please ask your tax professional)
  • Your kind words and support are priceless!

S.O.S. - Save our Seniors:

  • Thanks to the many wonderful people who help by sponsoring a mature pet, RAIN has special needs or senior pets (cats and dogs) available at reduced adoption fees. These pets have often fallen on hard times after an guardian dies or moves away, some have even lost their homes when guardians are deployed overseas in the military.
  • If you are seeking one of these special pets and there is not one listed, let us know and we will make every effort to find you the perfect SOS pet!
