ADOPTION INFORMATION

What We Require:

  • Please read the pet's biography for information before beginning!
  • A completed (both sides) RAIN questionnaire. The questionnaire is used to gather information on you to ensure we match you with the right pet. This same form is also used in the formal adoption process.
  • Adopters must be at least 21 years of age
  • Adopters must be willing to bring all family members to meet with the pet they are interested in adopting
  • For dog adoptions, we need adopter to bring their other dogs to do an introduction - or make arrangements for an off site location (cats are exempt!)
  • We commit to our animals for a lifetime; therefore, out of area adoptions are very rare. We want our adoptees to be within “help range” if the need arises
  • Adopters must be willing to allow R.A.I.N. to make follow up visits either by telephone or in person
  • Adoption fees are payable by Cash or Check (no debit or credit cards)
  • All cats must be transported in a carrier
  • We reserve the right to refuse any adoption
  • Typically, no new adoptions are started 30-45 minutes before the end of the adoption hours to give us time to complete all the necessary paperwork and answer any questions you may have.
  • YES! We can set up appointments outside of Saturday - see contact listed for pet
  • Please download the Adoption Application and fax, mail or e-mail that to us.

The Importance of FOSTERING Shelter Animals

What is it, who does it and why is it done?

Dogs and cats end up in shelters for many reasons. They are picked up as strays, given up by their owners or removed from a neglectful situation just to mention a few.

Regardless of the reason, these animals are confused and sometimes frightened while in the shelter.

Foster care allows the dog or cat time to relax and recover. It also gives us a chance to learn about the likes and dislikes of each animal. This dog is good with other dogs and kids, that cat doesn’t like dogs, that dog needs a fenced yard, this cat needs a quiet home, etc..

Many times animals too young to adopt are brought to shelters. These babies need time to mature, catch up on their vaccinations, and be safely spayed or neutered before they can be ready to find their new homes!

Home care also allows us to get a head start on the animals’ new life by working on housetraining, basic obedience and manners.

Caretakers usually have pets of their own. They want to help an animal in need and have the ability to care for, nurture and teach their charges.
