This is our cat "Colt".  I say that even though we had to put him to sleep July 3, 2001.  Colt was 21 years old.  He wasn't just a cat, he was a member of our family and older than our 17 year old son.  I'm telling you this because my sister is very involved with cats.  She tells me that there is still a problem with people letting their cats run around outside.  Colt never went outside and I know he enjoyed his life inside; other wise he never would have lived as long as he did.

The vet told me three years before that he had about 6 months to live, but nobody was going to tell him what to do.  When you keep your cat inside, you can control what they eat, what they get into and how often they interact with other cats.  Outside cats pick up other cats' sicknesses, fight for territory and get into other things they shouldn't.

We have two other cats.  Mesa my girl is 11 years old and also has never gone outside.  Don't tell her that she is that old, and don't tell her that she is a cat - she believes she is very much a human family member.  She still runs around like a 5 year old with our 1 year old boy.

Colt lived a very long life for a cat I'm told.  We didn't think so.  We miss him still every day, for he was a true member of our family.  He loved to sit in a open window, he loved to lay in the "sun spots" through our house and be in your lap and get pets until your hands would fall off.  Most of all, he loved life, being around people and being in the middle of everything.

I hope by reading this, at least one person decides to keep their cat inside.  If that happens, then I believe I have helped your cat live longer.

Meet Paper, an adorable 12 week old kitten.  If you think he looks younger, that's because he was born with something often called "failure to thrive".  Paper's step-brothers went on to find new homes, but he was born too early and his lungs never really developed.  Because he couldn't play with the other kitties, he was adopted by the dogs, one pup in particular became his guardian, friend and often groomer.  Paper's lungs finally could not keep up with his growing body.  It was with lots of tears that we saw him painlessly over the rainbow.  His dog friends miss him, we miss him, he may have been small, but he had the heart of a lion....bye baby.
