Update
08/25: We were almost afraid to
write the latest update. During her spay and dental, the vet found a
small lump, it was in the mammary gland, so he removed the entire area and
we sent it in for a biopsy. It was mercifully fast for the
response...benign...Princess made it over her (hopefully) final hurdle. Princess
has been housebroken, but uses potty pads or newspaper. She loves
walksies, but won't go outside to potty without her human
companions. She loves being carried, adores laps, likes snuggly beds
and is settling in nicely. She has been through so much and yet has
an incredible spirit. The groomers at PetSmart who helped shave off
her final matts think she might be part Chinese Crested - imagine if that
was the reason for the thin hair? If only her owner had taken the
time to turn her in and leave information.
Update
08/21: Princess is from
Animal
Welfare League. We were delivering supplies to the crowded
shelter and had not intended to pick up any dogs, much as we wanted
to. But then we saw Princess. She had been overlooked a couple
of times, cowering in the cage and, here was the worst part, nearly
naked. She had severe hair loss in many places. So,
we have been running a battery of tests. Was it Cushings? Something
auto-immune? Perhaps just a simple allergy or mites? We do not
yet know. But we wanted you to know the amazing story of this little
girl. Princess was
abandoned, literally, when someone moved out and left her with the
remaining tenants, who did not want her. She had never been spayed,
nor had a dental, and she was confused and afraid at the shelter.
Once in a foster home; however, she became an amazing dog.
Papertrained and housebroken, she made herself at home with the best
doggie beds and the comfiest laps. Princess
is all lap dog and we hope her tests will show that she will have a chance
to find a great home.
