09/30/2007: Good
news for Lucy, although you might not consider the return of a urinalysis
with bad information, good news! But it means that Lucy has a very
treatable medical problem that her owner never bothered to find out about
and likely, caused.
Lucy has 3+ ammonium phosphate (struvite)
crystals, some blood and an infection... a triple whammy to her poor
urinary tract. Poor quality food and care, lack of proper nutrition
(grocery store dry foods and low quality ones) have probably set this
young cat up for this painful problem.
Lucy will be on a diet to dissolve the
crystals and some medication for the infection, she should be feeling much
better fairly quickly and we hope to recheck her in 30 days for her
prognosis
09/25/2007: Lucy is brand new to us. She just
arrived courtesy of a couple of wonderful people who brought her all the
way up to us. Lucy was given up because she was a very expensive
"purchase" who soiled her owner's carpet. She has been a
doll for the people at the shelter and they were kind enough to entrust
her to our care.
Lucy will be getting a full workup at our
vet. She will be checked for any urinary or kidney issues and we'll
see if we can find out why she finds herself homeless. Please keep
Lucy in your thoughts and if you know an experienced home seeking a
wonderful Sphynx friend, let them know that Lucy will soon be up for
adoption!
