04/12/2007:
Junior would like a new home
please! The "big guy", since he is the biggest of the 3
Chi's in his foster home, is doing fabulously! His cold is gone, he
is doing great on housebreaking (he uses newspaper in an emergency) and he
crates wonderfully. Junior is very talkative at the adoption events,
but in his foster home he is very well behaved. Like any good
Chihuahua; however, he is a great alert barker when he needs to be.
03/25/2007:
Junior
is extra lucky. He was eating one of the foods that was recently
recalled. It gave us quite a scare. Both he and Piglet began
to have the symptoms, but we caught it just in time and switched foods
only days before the news. It was lucky for both, any more time on
the food and they might have had liver damage.
Our vet had thought that
Junior had non-regerative anemia, which would have meant that he would not
survive. But it was due to the recalled food. When Junior
began vomitting, we switched his food and he immediately showed signs of
improvement again. His values are all almost normal, except for a
slight infection (cold) he is one happy and happening dude again!
Update: Junior
is doing SO much better. After lots of tests and a much needed
dental, it seems that being so extremely skinny has made Junior anemic and
he was missing an enzyme that helped him to gain weight from eating.
After the addition of a powered supplement, the weight packed on and he is
almost to a normal weight!
Junior is a different guy,
happy and zippy, wanting to play and snuggle. He is just a joy to be
around. The doctors want to run one blood workup on him and then he
should be able to find his new and forever home!
=====================================================
Junior is from Animal
Welfare League where he ended up as a stray. He was there with 8
other Chihuahuas who all had some things in common. They were all
boys and they were all adults and they were all intact. Should we
guess that their owners tired of them marking in the house but did not
want to spend the money to neuter them?
Chihuahuas are all the craze,
especially a few years ago. Sadly, not everyone that acquired one
did so with the intention of keeping them 20 years or providing them with
the home they needed and wanted. Junior is no exception. He is
severely underweight, was desperately in need of a dental and was a bit
scared and unsure at the shelter.
