Sugar and her brother lost their home and ended up at Animal Welfare League because 2 pups were just to hard to train at once. |

| I adopted a black Chihuahua
from you guys about 2 1/2 years ago. Her name with you was Louis. I
changed her name to Ashley.
This was one of the ones that was locked up in cage in a guys basement in the Chicago area that had about 100 of these dogs in cages. I finally broke her of her crate about a 1 1/2 years ago (this was all she new and would open the door to go in there). She only likes me. She hates men and kids that's for sure. She is trying to be a normal dog but, she still has a long way to come. We take her every where with us. I think she's about 10 - 12 years old (this is what my vet has guessed her age at and I have to agree with him). I think she is just getting too old and has set her ways to being a normal dog. We all keep working with her and the men in my family try to work with her too. She will finally let my dad pet her if I am not around (when we are all out camping). She is finally letting my daughter and her friends pet her but she still puts those ears back and has that look (like don't hurt me please!). She is a very normal dog around me and speaks to me and wags her tail when I come home from work. This summer my daughter and I went on vacation for 5 days and my other half stayed home to take care of Ashley. He said she was sad and miserable when I was gone. The only time she showed affection to him is when he had food but, she won't let him pet her (she will but she has that scared look). Boy, when I came home she was mad at me that's for sure. So, needless to say If I leave longer than a day then she has to go with me. We are still easing her in with other than us and that seems to help (like when we go camping). WE feel bad for her and we know she will never be normal Chihuahua. My whole family has Chihuahua's and she gets along with them fine and gets excited when she sees them. But, she is not a people dog and does not like affection like the real Chihuahua's do. It has been hard for us all because we all want to love her and she doesn't want it from us (except me but she is one that does not want a lot affection). She is a good girl and stays in the yard when we go outside. Our front step is her favorite spot to lay on when it's sunny out! She's down to about 9-10 lbs now and not has huge as she was when I first brought home. Now days she is not eaten much and that is due to her getting old (my neighbor is a vet and she sees Ashley about once week). I am afraid her time is near. I will miss her. But, I will know in mind that she had live a happy her life then she did before I got her and this will make me smile for her. I just wanted to let you know how she is doing and how far she has come today. Your other Chihuahua's are cute I hope they go to a happy home too! Sherri |
